The Philadelphia Youth and Young Adult Roundtable Enthusiastic Young Adults between the ages of 13--24 needed to give nput on HIV Prevention for Young Philadelphians The YRT is a volunteer group of 13—24 year olds who meet at least once every month to make sure the voice of youth is included in the planning of HIV/AIDS prevention services in the Philadelphia region. This way services for youth are developed in part by youth. This group responds to the range of issues, needs and viewpoints of the young people of Philadelphia who are at high risk for HIV infection. The YRT currently has a major leadership role in local HIV Prevention Community Planning Group (CPG). Mission Statement The Youth and Young Adult Roundtable of the Philadelphia CPG supports and empowers Philadelphia youth to advocate for ourselves and incorporate youth perspectives in HIV/AIDS prevention community planning. History According to the 2004 CDC surveillance report African Americans were the largest group of young people affected by HIV. Because of the concerns related to the impact the AIDS epidemic is believed to have on young people, the Youth Roundtable (YRT) was established in April 2004. The YRT is a group of innovative youth and young adults in Philadelphia from various HIV prevention agencies, care organizations and the community. The group is supported by The Office of HIV Planning Philadelphia. This group meets once a month to discuss what HIV prevention strategies work best with young adults in the city. These results get reported to the CPG. The Youth Roundtable has developed programs for the United States Conference on HIV/AIDS (Oct 2004). The roundtable also delivers presentations to various inner city high schools on HIV/AIDS planning and prevention. The Philadelphia Youth and Young Adult Roundtable meets once a month at the Office of HIV Planning. Snacks and transportation reimbursement are provided. Click here for upcoming meeting dates |
